Leeds scores two-point victory over Panthers
LEEDS — With most of the county playing one another in the county tournament last week, the Panthers and Green Wave followed that trend and faced off in the Pell City Center Thursday afternoon.
The Leeds varsity guys’ edged Pell City 57-55 on a Mark Buckner buzzer beater with 2.3 seconds left.
The Green Wave led narrowly at the end of the first quarter and at the break.
Leeds coach Ashley Allen said afterward, “In the first half we had them, but they were able to knock down a lot of big three’s.”
Leeds will be the two seed playing the three seed in the upcoming area tournament that will be hosted by Altamont after the Green Wave fell to the Knights last week on the road.
Allen said his team has surprised some people.
“They’ve done more than what was expected,” Allen said recently. “They’ve played real well considering there was one returning starter and a bunch of former b-team players.”
