The Leeds Green Wave boys followed suit with the girls and got a home win over the Shelby County Wildcats, 62-57, going into the Christmas holidays.
Leeds was off and running to start the game, jumping out to a 12-2 lead with 3:19 left in the first quarter. The Green Wave lead was cut four points late in the quarter but Leeds extended their lead out to 20-13 heading into the second quarter.
Leeds opened the lead back up to nine points, 26-17, to start the second quarter. After a high scoring fast paced second quarter, Leeds led 39-30 at half time.
Leeds outscored the Wildcats 17-10 to go up 56-40 after three quarters.
The Green Wave lead was quickly cut to ten points, 56-46, with 6:36 left in the game. With 3:07 left the Green Wave found themselves in a battle, leading only by six points 58-52. The Wildcats had the ball as time was ticking away late in the game, trailing by three points 60-57, but Mark Buckner came away with a huge steal and a score and Leeds won by five.
Buckner led the Green Wave with 23 big points, Brandon Woods followed with 13 points and Deantric Thomas put up ten points.
Like the Lady Green Wave, the boys will be in tournament play during the holidays, participating in the Metro Christmas Tournament at Homewood, December 31 – January 2. Leeds will return home on January 5 for an area battle with Altamont.
