Springville’s Matt Margavio started hot with a breakaway dunk and a three-pointer to give the Tigers a quick 5-0 lead in the first quarter against the Blue Devils Friday night in Moody. The Blue Devils’ Tyler Hamby hit a three moments later and Springville led 11-5 heading into the second quarter. A couple of Springville three pointers from Margavio and Josh Gipson helped push the lead to 28-14 at the break. Midway through the third quarter, Moody’s Cory Payne got a bucket and the foul on a drive into the lane to make the score to 32-26, Springville. The score was 36-28 at the end of the third and the Blue Devils were beginning to make a run. A deep three from Margavio gave the Tigers a nine-point lead with 5:48 left in the game. Moody came back with a floater in the lane from T.J. Jones and then a Yates Boykin fall away three made the score 45-41 with 48.5 seconds in the game. The Blue Devils’ Cory Panye then cut the lead further with another three, bringing the score to 45-44 with 16 seconds left. After several intentional fouls by Moody, the Tigers led by three, 47-44, with 0.3 seconds remaining in the game. Moody called a timeout just across half court to draw up a play in the final moment. The ball was inbounded and Hamby got a decent shot off but it fell short as the game ended.
