Two local youth recently brought home a variety of honors from the Shelby-Jefferson Swim Association Senior County Meet.
Holden Patterson, son of Eric and Nancy Patterson of Leeds, came in second place overall in the 6-and-under boys division at the meet, held at the Hoover Recreation Center.
Only the top swimmers from each of the 23 teams involved in the swim association qualify to swim in the senior county meet. During the course of the summer swim season, Holden was able to qualify for the meet, won two first place medals at the divisional meet and set three team records for the Brookhighland Marlin Swim Team.
At the Shelby-Jefferson Senior County Meet, Holden won the freestyle event, came in second in both the butterfly and backstroke and came in fourth in the breast stroke event. He was able to achieve three AA times and one A time at and he will be honored at a banquet in September where he will receive an All Star Award. The All Star Award is the highest honor the swimmers can receive. Less than 1 percent of swimmers in the league qualify for all star status.
Grace Patterson, also the daughter of Eric and Nancy Patterson of Leeds, won a silver medal for freestyle relay in the 8-and-under girls division at the Shelby Jefferson County Senior County Meet. Only the top swimmers qualify for senior county. She had qualifying times in all six events and swam on Brookhighland Marlins freestyle and medley relays.
Over the course of the summer, Grace had many first place finishes in breast stroke and received a silver medal at divisionals in breast stroke.
