LEEDS —
Last Friday night Leeds High School held its annual community wide meet and greet event, introducing this year’s version of the Green Wave football team.
There was a very large showing in support for, not only the sports and auxiliaries at the middle and high school, but also for teams from throughout the community. Each team from the 75-pound cheerleaders and football players up to the 135-pound teams were introduced. The event also featured the entire band, cheerleaders, volleyball as well as the 2010 Green Wave football team.
Following the introductions, there was a the annual Green and White game that featured some hard hits taking place between the two squads.
Dedrick Forsythe got the first score of the game with one of his many cut-back runs. Jonathon Rose provided the longest play of the game with a 65-yard run on a reverse, but Zack Crawford made a defensive play to prevent a touchdown. Ladarius Rogers finished the drive with one of his allusive runs for the green team. Dantrell Purifoy showed his teammates and the Green Wave fans what he had to offer by stiff arming his way to the endzone to give the white team a 14-7 win.
Leeds continues to prepare for the upcoming season as they prepare to host the Lincoln Golden Bears and the Childersburgh Wildcats in a fall jamboree game tomorrow night at Homer Smiles Field.
The Green Wave will not see a home game until the third week of the season as they open things up with road contests at Alexandria and Marbury on August 27 and September 3, respectively.
