If you are a Green Wave fan and came to many of the Leeds football games within the last 15 or 20 years or so then the name Randall McCain should ring a bell to you. Randall McCain is a 1994 graduate of Leeds High School. He was a defensive linemen for the Green Wave and played with present Coach Keith Etheredge, and former Coaches Bobby Fairly and Tim Sanders.
Like any other teenager in high school, McCain had his fun. (In the world as it is referred to by McCain). However, there was something that was taking place in his life that he could not understand at that time. The Lord was calling him to preach while in high school. “I always felt like that, I was always fascinated with former Mt. Calvary Baptist Church Pastors Clyde Beverly Jr., and Oliver Jones, and how they where able to take scripture and bring Gods word,” he said. McCain did not accept God’s call at that time. “I was in the world,” he said. “I was not ready to let the world go either.”
God was not quite ready to let McCain go just yet. Years down the road he started having dreams, dreams of preaching to people. “I would start crying all of a sudden,” McCain said. “Then I asked God, ‘Is this what you want me to do’” McCain got his answer and the rest is history. Randall McCain is now preaching God’s word.
His first sermon was at Canon Baptist Church in his current home of Montgomery. The sermon’s title was “Almost Ain’t Good Enough,” coming from the book of Acts 26:24-28.
Randall now works at Safety Net in Montgomery. Safety Net is responsible for taking care of kids that DHR has removed from homes. He has been there for one year, after changing career paths.
McCain also has a prison ministry in the Youth Facility at Mt. Meigs, and at the County Youth Facility in the Montgomery County Jail.
McCain has a wife of four years, LaWanda, and a nine-year-old daughter, Jordan, an eight-year-old son, Jay, and a 10-month-old son Cadon.
For those who would like to hear Randall McCain bring God’s word, he and former Green Wave Chris Rose will be teaming up to preach the Youth Day Services of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church this Sunday. Rose will bring the word during the 11 o’clock service, and McCain is the speaker of the hour at the 2:30 service.
