Prominent California church HRock endorses independent film 'Lifted'
ODENVILLE — A church in Pasadena, California recently endorsed a film not only produced in Alabama, but also starring actor Uriah Shelton and American Idol’s Ruben Studdard, both Alabama natives, as well as Odenville’s own Todd Simpson.
The film, Lifted, centers around 13-year-old Henry Matthews (Uriah Shelton), a boy who struggles with life after his reservist father is deployed to Afghanistan. With the help of a local pastor, who is played by Ruben Studdard, Henry decides to take part in a local singing contest.
Pasadena’s prominent mega church Harvest Rock, a 1,200 member, non-denomination church with over 5,000 affiliates across the world, endorsed the independent film earlier this month.
HRock, as the church is known, is located in the heart of Pasadena at Ambassador Auditorium.
Senior pastor, Che Ahn, and his son, youth pastor Gabe Ahn, were shown a preview screening of Lexi Alexander’s new movie, Lifted, after which they decided to officially endorse the film.
“What I liked so much about this film is that it centered on family relationships, but at the same time encourages us to dream big,” said Gabe Ahn.
Religion and spirituality play a big role in the film as the characters, despite all obstacles, are inspired by life.
Actor, Uriah Shelton, who grew up in Alabama as the grandson of a Christian minister was excited to visit HRock Church and meet Pastor Che and Gabe Ahn personally.
Lifted will make its debut in the fall of 2010.
