Representative Owen Drake stated this morning that he had spoken with Brian Davis with the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) and residents who live on Hwy. 119 in Leeds and received a letter from ALDOT stating they needed to move their fences back can now rest a little easier. The letter from ALDOT had stated that residents had 30 days to comply. Drake said that Davis told him ALDOT would be coming back out to resurvey and that the process could take a good amount of time. In the meantime, residents would not need to worry about moving their fences.
Drake noted that Hwy. 119 is a designated Scenic Byway and that the Jonathan Bass House that sits on Hwy. 119 is a nationally registered historic site.
Drake added that this is not the end of the process with ALDOT, but that for the time being, the affected residents will not have to take immediate action to comply with ALDOT.
