Dameron is LAC’s featured artist

LEEDS — Tom Dameron, Leeds Arts Council’s featured artist for March, will he honored with an opening reception from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday. March 7.

Dameron’s paintings will be on exhibit in the Leeds Theatre and Arts Center gallery during the month of March. The public is invited to come and meet the artist and enjoy his beautiful works. There is no charge; however, the paintings will be available for purchase. The arts center is located at 8140 Parkway Drive, downtown Leeds.

The artist is self-taught. He works in a variety of mediums including pencil, watercolor, etchings, serigraphy, acrylics and stained glass. This exhibit will feature original watercolors on handmade paper and a number of etchings from a trip made to Monet’s home in Giverny, France.

Dameron has exhibited in a number of venues and has work in The Montgomery Museum of Art, the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame and many private collections. Currently, he is working on a new series of encaustic paintings with influences from the Pre-Raphaelites. The artist is a member of the Birmingham Art Association. He had three pieces accepted in their recent juried exhibit.

Music has also been a very real part of his art experiences. Those who attended the LAC Comet featuring The Legendary Pineapple Skinners, a traditional New Orleans style jazz hand, enjoyed his talents as he played the tuba. For more information on the band, go to www.pineappleskinners.com.

The exhibit can be enjoyed during arts center hours, Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m., and during arts council events. For more information regarding the many upcoming arts council activities, call the arts center at 699-1892 or go to the web site www.leedsartscouncil.org.
