LEEDS — A large collection of old hand tools is on display at Leeds’ Bass House Museum through the month of March. The tools are on loan from Marvin Little of Pell City.
Little said he has always loved tools and wood working.
“I had a few old tools and got a few from my dad,” he said. “People who knew I collected them gave me their old tools. One guy found an old tool is his field and brought it to me.”
Little says the collection on display at the Bass House includes almost all of the hand tools he has collected.
“I’ve got a basement full of power tools and other tools,” he said.
Little’s wood-working experiences include carving walking sticks, which he displayed and sold at the 2009 Leeds Downtown Folk Festival and John Henry Celebration. He plans to show the walking sticks again at this year’s festival on Sept. 18 and 19.
A Leeds native, Little moved to Pell City when he retired.
The Bass House is open from 1:30 to 4 p.m. on Wednesdays and Sundays, but is closed on holidays. Admission is free to the public.
The Leeds Historical Society holds monthly meetings at the Leeds Historic Depot, 8335 Thornton Ave. There is no admission charge, and the public is invited. The society’s next meeting is set for Feb. 14.
