LEEDS — Leeds resident Rachel Victoria Buchan won the Teen Novice Pro-Am division at the United Country Western Dance Council’s 2010 World Championship competition in Nashville, Tenn. The competition was January 5 through 10 at Gaylord’s Opryland Convention Complex and featured entrants from across the United States and other countries.
Buchan competed in eight country dances including waltz, triple two-step, cha-cha, polka, east-coast swing, west-coast swing, two-step, and nightclub. She won best overall in her division and also won the highest honors for each individual dance.
A home-school student with Crossroads Christian School in Moody, Buchan attends the Church at Brook Hills and works at Chick-fil-A to support her dance hobby.
She has been competitively dancing with Bailey Dance for just over a year and hopes to teach and choreograph in the future.
Her dance teacher is Chris Bailey with Bailey Dance Studio in Hoover.
