Meet Your Neighbor – Heather Wiles

For resident and master stylist Heather Wiles owning a salon has been on the top of her list of aspirations for as long as she can remember. Admittedly as a child, she said she would get in trouble when her mother would find her Barbie dolls with chopped up hairdos and funky styles. So, when the chance to operate her own salon, the Bella Vita Hair Salon, in Leeds came to light, she could not wait to jump own the opportunity. “As soon as I hit 17 years old, I enrolled in cosmetology school,” she said. “It is so much fun and I can’t picture doing anything else.”

Wiles has been a cosmetologist for fives years. She attended Wynona’s Cosmetology School in Homewood and is a licensed cosmetologist. She worked at Shangri-la Salon before branching out on her own and has a variety of cuts and styles for everyone in the family. Family is important to this stylist and she said she would not be where she is today if it were not for her very supportive family.

Bella Vita is open Tuesday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Fridays 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Wiles said they also take early and late appointments. Kym Beam and Crystal Wilson, both licensed stylists, also work at the salon. “We do color, cutting, full body waxing and facials,” she said. “Right now, we offering $10 off a color which starts at $55 and we are also doing $5 off any shampoo, cut and style which start at $25.”

“I want people to know that we are an upscale salon without the salon prices,” said Wiles.

Heather Wiles hails from Pinson where she grew up and attended school, but said she absolutely loves this area. “There is a different kind of people,” she said. “Everyone is genuinely nice and seem easy to please. I picked this area because it is growing so much. I knew it would be a great area for a business.”

Bella Vita Salon has started out with a focus to be good community stewards. The salon takes donations for Camp Smile-A-Mile and at the end of the year they will take all the donations to the camp. “We have books and information here on the camp and really, really support them,” said Wiles. “I really love what they do and we want to help in any way that we can.”

When she is not working, Wiles likes to spend time with friends and family. She lives by the quote, “Live everyday like it is your last.”
