Leeds Jane Culbreth Library having fun learning with kids this summer
Summer has been a lot of fun at the Leeds Jane Culbreth Library.
Ronald McDonald performed magic tricks and promoted reading to all. Magic Man Entertainment from Atlanta, Ga. showed his unique ‘Out of the Box’ science experiments and magic tricks including making a balloon float in thin air.
He also had a banjo made from a cookie tin, a strip of wood and strings.
It actually had a pretty nice sound! Daisy the cow also entertained this summer. Daisy and her human, Amanda Griffith, educated the crowd about the nutritional benefits of milk, bovine facts and other ‘cowology.’
Nearly 70 people braved the heat to watch Daisy’s milking demonstration. Thanks to the Leeds Police Department for allowing us to close the street during the program for the safety of the children and to the Street Department for setting up the barriers. Daisy thanks you too!
Coming up next week, we have our adult 'Clay Time' sculpture art class for adults and High School students Monday, July 6 at 5:30 p.m. Norma Prinsloo will teach sculpture, then take the individual works of art home to fire them.
The following week, everyone who attends the class on the 6th, will come back to paint and decorate their sculpture. Please call and sign up so that materials can be purchased. Space is limited, so call soon!
We also have Tot Time at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 7, an edible finger painting session for kindergarten through 2nd grade students at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8, and an art class at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, for grades 3-5.
There are currently 424 children signed up for Summer Reading! Adults can also participate by reading five books, then dropping their name and phone number in a basket to participate in a weekly drawing for prizes.
So far, we’ve had two winners and another will be called today. The more you read, the more chances you have! Are you a name dropper?
